Drp1(Dynamin-related Protein 1) caused global morphological changes in mitochondrial outer membrane-like liposomes, but DLP1 or Drp1 did not stimulate BAXpermeabilizing function in the absence or presence of Bif-1. The human homolog is a GTPase that is necessary for peroxisome division [RGD]. Mitochondrial fragmentation in acute kidney injury involves the activation of mitochondrial fission via Drp1. Drp1 contains Ras_like_GTPase domain. The Ras-like superfamily of small GTPases consists of several families with an extremely high degree of structural and functional similarity. The Ras superfamily is divided into at least four families in eukaryotes
